The Mariners must get all three points if they are to maintain their title hopes…
Mohun Bagan will play United Sports Club in an important encounter in the Calcutta Football League (CFL) which they must win to maintain their title quest. Till Thursday evening there was no chance of Bagan playing United SC owing to the fiasco involving the abandoned match against Tollygunge Agragami. But, an emergency meeting of the Bagan board finally decided to honour the schedule following a request from the Indian Football Association (IFA), the governing body of the sport in West Bengal. But Bagan officials have reiterated that they will not participate in any other upcoming CFL games until the controversy regarding the Agragami clash is resolved. In the last training session ahead of the match, Bagan Head Coach Shankarlal Chakraborty emphasised on making the most of set-pieces as the team kept on rehearsing corner and free-kick routines. With this it is clear that he is keen to get an early goal and put pressure on Tollygunge from the outsrt. Bagan will miss the services of their star winger Prabir Das as he is suspended after picking up two yellow cards and he will make way for Tapan Maity on the right flank. Bagan coach Chakraborty will be counting on the duo of Darryl Duffy and Daniel Bidemi to provide the goals in this important match. On the other hand, United SC who began poorly in the CFL have made a strong comeback in the last few matches with the inclusion of Eric Brown in the attack who will partner youngster Suhair VP, the star striker of United so far. Bello Rasaq will be leading the purple brigade in the defense while veteran custodian Sangram Mukherjee will be in goal. Three points for Bagan in this match will ensure that they are still in the title race while a loss will push arch-rivals East Bengal closer to glory. United SC too will be looking to continue the momentum as a slip will again push them down into the relegation zone.Match report by Khel Now Correspondent Rony. Sports passionate and content writer.
