Both Gunners, as well as Spurs, are unbeaten in their last five games, thus making it an exciting and tense fixture.
Ahead of the North London derby in the Premier League, Arsenal boss Unai Emery expressed his admiration towards his counterpart, Mauricio Pochettino. The Frenchman believes that the Tottenham manager is one of the best coaches in the world alongside Pep Guardiola and Diego Simeone. According to Emery, the former Southampton manager has developed some young players during his career who are now among the world’s best.
“His career is very consistent. His structure in every team is very clear, with good performances,” said the former Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla boss. “He has worked in Spain, then here with Southampton and Tottenham, with young players and every young player usually improves with him and his staff.”
“I think he deserves, because of his career, to be considered with the best coaches like Guardiola and Simeone,” he added.
Pochettino has led the Spurs to consistent top 3 finishes in the last three years. Since his appointment as manager in 2014, he has recorded a 56.3 win percentage in as many as 238 games. The Argentinian also won the Premier League Manager of the Month award thrice during three seasons.
His tenure at Tottenham has earned him a lot of praises and was recently even tipped to become the manager of Real Madrid post the departure of Zinedine Zidane. However, Emery dismissed the speculations saying, “At the moment, I think he is happy at Tottenham- and he has a lot of respect at the club.”
“I don’t know if it will happen. Every coach knows that their work depends on the results and the team you are at. He’s got a lot of respect from other coaches in the Premier League and he is doing very well in Tottenham,” added the 47-year-old.
Talking about Spurs’ performance this season, Emery said, “ They are in a very good moment in their season but we want our supporters to see our best work and in return, we want to feel them pushing us.”
It will be a mouth-watering clash at the Emirates Stadium as the Gunners are vying to move into the top four amidst a heavy competition. Spurs stand 3rd in the table with 30 points and if they are to lose the derby, they might fall out of the top four and replace the Gunners at the 5th position. Since both the sides are unbeaten in their last five games, it will be an intriguing clash on a Super Sunday in the Premier League which will also see Liverpool play Everton in the Merseyside Derby at Anfield.
