The Arsenal gaffer has opened up about the situation with Ozil and has urged his squad to push a bit further.
Mesut Ozil has been the talk of the footballing fraternity ever since he found a place for himself in ‘that’ photo with the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Controversy after another controversy after another controversy and now we find Ozil slipping out of Emery’s plans and him retiring from international football after having to face racism for being of Turkish descents.
The star midfielder was not called for West Ham United game and was substituted out against Chelsea. And the reports of him being involved into a petty quarrel with his coach over his playing position adds insult to the injury.
Although Unai Emery dismissed the reports of the brawl, it is quite certain that the position of the number 10 is still something that the former PSG coach needs to give a thought. And for the same purpose, Emery and Ozil sat and discussed on which the coach puts more light before the Cardiff City game with Ozil starting on the right wing.
“I like the possibility to have the player play different positions on the pitch. It depends each match on us and on the opposition. ”
“Mesut played with me on the right wing and also as No.10 and we are going to continue to do that. It’s about where he is better for us and where he is better [used], thinking also about the opposition’s style to play. ”
“Our demands are very high, very great. I want to ask every player every day to give us more, not just Mesut, but the team, the squad. We need to push, we need to have ambition, we need to have the desire to improve every day.”
“This is my message for the team, for the squad and for every player.”
“I spoke with him [Ozil] about his best position on the pitch and I know he can play on the right and as the ten player.
“Mesut in his career he played as a ten and on the right. When he was playing in Madrid, I remember a lot of matches on the right. His quality is for playing between the lines and attacking.
“He wants that I can use him for two positions. The most important is his mentality for helping the team with his quality and his performance.”
Ozil, in his whole career, has played 29 times on the right wing by scoring two goals and assisting 13! It will be interesting to see how Unai Emery shapes him on the right now.
