Rooney voices his opinion on the Mourinho-Pogba feud
Ever since the departure of Jose Mourinho, Manchester United has won six games in a row in all competitions.
Manchester United legend and record goalscorer Wayne Rooney has finally spoken out about the clash between Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho which the latter eventually lost and had to face the axe.
Manchester United appointed former player Ole Gunnar Solksjaer as interim manager and have won six on the trot since with the French World Cup winner taking active protagonism of the side. He has scored four goals and four assists in those games.
Wayne Rooney is of the opinion that Pogba needed to be left alone to try and play his own attacking game where he may falter now and then but is one of the best in the world at what he does and Mourinho’s attempts at being overcritical of Paul’s mistakes wasn’t the right approach.
“I think with Paul, watching him come through the academy at United and he’s got a lot of ability, but was going through a difficult time. If you don’t have the relationship with the coach, then it’s difficult to be at your best if you feel like the coach is scrutinising every decision you make, every pass you make," he said.
"Paul Pogba will give the ball away, he’ll try passes and it won’t be the right pass at times. But you have to let him do that because two or three passes will create goals, will create opportunities. I think he found it difficult under Mourinho. I think a player and a manager with big egos clashed and the outcome was never going to be great,” said Rooney who now plays for MLS outfit DC United.
Both Pogba and Mourinho are believed to have big egos and they had a very public fallout several times this season. Jose Mourinho openly spoke about the fact that Pogba would never captain United under his management and the pair also had a very heated exchange on the training ground after the Carabao Cup loss to Derby County - the clip of which went viral on social media.

In his final days at Old Trafford, Mourinho ousted Pogba from the starting XI on several occasions and didn’t feature a single minute in United’s last game under Jose- a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool.
Manchester United have been in tremendous form under Ole and won 1-0 against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend where Paul Pogba played the decisive pass from which Marcus Rashford scored. Rooney also revealed that he spoke to the young England international when they were on international duty in November advising him that he was working too hard.
“When I went back to play for the national team against the USA, I spoke to Marcus and he was trying too much, he was trying too hard, he was working too hard, he was getting tired at the end of games.”

Marcus Rashford scored in the last game against Tottenham Hotspur to keep up the winning streak of Manchester United.
