The Red Devils are currently two points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.

Manchester United legend, Ryan Giggs voiced his support for the newly appointed permanent manager of his former club, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, stating that he was backing the Norwegian to lead his side to a top-four finish come the end of the season.

Solskjaer, who signed a three-year deal with the red devils on Thursday has already eclipsed the points total amassed by his predecessor, Jose Mourinho in just the three months that he has been at Old Trafford.

"I'm delighted to see he has got the job permanently," said Giggs.

"OK, the last two games haven't gone to plan, (but) if you have the momentum that the team have at the moment, that's all you want.

"It won't be easy because there are some quality teams up there but with the players they've got and the momentum, I don't see why we can't get top four."

Giggs and Solskjaer played together for 11 years at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson from whom Solskjaer draws inspiration and guidance for his new role as manager of the club he served so well as a player.

"Ole's been in close contact with the manager (Ferguson) since he took over; why wouldn't you?" said Giggs.

"The wisdom he's got, the experience he's got, it's a great shoulder to lean on.

"Ole's his own person as well, he will want to do it his way."

Giggs, who was appointed as the interim manager of the club following the departure of David Moyes in 2014, backed the 46-year-old Solskjaer to be a success at Manchester United as he was a former player who truly understands everything that the club stands for.

"Solskjaer is someone who has played for the club, coached at the club too, and recognizes what a Manchester United player looks like.

"People from the outside may be a little bit skeptical about that, but when you have played at the club and experienced the way the fans want you to play, I think you understand more than someone coming from the outside."

All eyes will be on the Norwegian as he takes charge of his side as the permanent boss for the first time against Watford on Saturday.
