The Spanish tactician represented the gunners for five seasons where he won four silverwares.
Manchester City's assistant coach and the former Arsenal midfielder, Mikel Arteta, has been linked with the Gunners to become their head coach. Arsenal sacked Unai Emery last month and now they are keen to sign a new player after the interim boss Freddie Ljungberg failed to impress. Since the departure of Emery, Ljungberg could only manage to win just one of the five games. He drew two and lost two including a 3-0 thrashing from Manchester City. After the defeat, there were strong links connecting Mikel Arteta with Arsenal when senior executives from the club were seen leaving Arteta's home around 1 am on Monday. Mikel's current boss, Pep Guardiola and his former head coach Arsene Wenger have voiced their opinions on the same. The Manchester City gaffer said, "Yeah I think so. It [a decision] is going to happen quick." "He knows exactly what we would like, but in the end the decision is individual, it is personal," said Guardiola to Sky. "Nobody is here that doesn't want to be here. What will happen in the next days? I don't know, honestly. I would like Mikel to be here." [KH_ADWORDS type="3" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS] While speaking on the same link, Wenger said, "I am an Arsenal supporter. And at the moment I support the manager in charge and the manager in charge is Ljungberg. When Arteta will be in charge I will support Arteta." "He (Arteta) is intelligent, he has passion, he has knowledge, but Ljungberg [does] as well. "I believe that Arteta has certainly a great future, he has certainly learned a lot in his first position as an assistant coach and after that as well he will have to deal with the fact that he has no experience at that level and he will have to get surrounded well." He said, "When I left the club was in a very strong financial position and they bought many players in-between - they have not all worked out." "I believe that it's not a question of time. The change can be very efficient very quickly, it's just about the right decision-making and that's all that it's about in football, it's about good players." "We speak about the success of Liverpool, of course they have a great manager, but you have to say as well that in the last three-four years, they bought the right players," said Wenger to Sky.Latest News
