Rungsing Muinao and Andy Z. Wawthoh both scored braces of headers for Wahingdoh as Kilp Barfungpa also got his name on the score sheet for Wahingdoh while Ricky Nongsiej got a consolation for Nongkrem FC in injury time. .

If any team needed to get a good result to kick start their second half of the season, it was newcomers Nongkrem FC who had suffered losses in all their first six matches. However, it wasn’t to be so as Wahingdoh put in a dominant display and hammered the minnows 5-1 who now looks doomed for relegation. Wahingdoh were much more dominant right from the first half and their dominant display in the middle of the park meant their wide men got loads of spaces on the flanks to cause Nongkrem all kinds of problems. Nongkrem were able to deal with the trouble for a almost half an hour but couldn’t hold on any longer as Andy Z. Mawthoh scored in the 24th minute with a header from a cross.

Their dominance continued and Andy nearly got his second of the evening at the half hour mark when Bekay’s pass found him in the edge of the box. Andy fired from distance but his shot cannoned off the crossbar. Wahingdoh had a tireless runner in striker Rungsing Muinao and he got a well deserved goal, four minutes before the break when he headed in a low powerful cross by Andy to double Wahingdoh’s lead. Nongkrem FC had no answers whatsoever to both the goals as the match ended 2-0 at the interval. Wahingdoh started the second half in the same fashion and it took them only two minutes to score again after the restart. Their bright eccentric start earned them a corner in the 47th minute. The corner found Rungsing Muinao’s head who then placed the ball expertly into the top corner of the Nongkrem goal to get his second goal of the game and his fourth in his maiden season in the Gionee Shillong Premier league. Wahingdoh’s impressive show down the flanks got them their third when Kitborlang’s cross from the left wing was headed into an open net by Andy for his second of the evening in the 64th minute. Kilp Barfungpa, the Wahingdoh left back who had an impressive outing got the fifth of the evening for Wahingdoh in the 68th minute when he somehow got past the Nongkrem goalkeeper and slotted home into an open net. Andy and Rungsing both looked for their hat trick but couldn’t get any chance to get their third. Nongkrem FC got a consolation through a goal by Ricky Nongsiej late in stoppage time. Wahingdoh needs to build on this performance if they dare to dream of the title while Nongkrem FC will need a miracle in the second leg of the Gionee Shillong Premier League if they are to find themselves playing their trades in Shillong’s elite competition. Monday’s fixture: Nangkiew Irat FC Vs. Langsning FC.
