Both head coaches met the press following the one-sided fixture and remained upbeat about their respective teams.

The India U-15 side continued their winning form in style, as they thumped Bhutan U-15 7-0 in the SAFF U-15 Championship at the Kalyani Stadium on Sunday.

Braces from Taison Singh and Sridarth were enough to guide the hosts past the visitors in a completely one-sided affair.

Speaking on the consecutive big wins, Bibiano Fernandes was clearly pleased with the strides his side is making. “We are happy that we got the win today and as always, we were going to approach the match the same way we did against Nepal.

Considering that, we are also preparing for the AFC (U-16 Championship) Qualifiers and it is very important to keep our standards up and not to lose concentration during the course of the game. We have a clear objective for the SAFF Championship and we’re trying to achieve that.”

When asked to comment about the injuries to Sridarth and Sibajit Singh, the tactician revealed that it was nothing serious and the issues were due to cramp in the damp weather in Kalyani. “It’s probably because of the odd timings and the food and the travelling we are having to do. Also, the ground conditions and the rain have an effect, but it’s nothing serious.”

“We have been scoring good goals,” the U-15 manager said when asked to assess his team’s performance, as they have now scored 12 goals without conceding. “During our exposure tour we scored good goals in Thailand and Sridarth and many boys are getting on the scoresheet, which is encouraging to see. I hope we continue like this.”

The press conference with the manager of Bhutan Atushi Nakamura began when he was asked to assess the game, where his side were on the receiving end of a hammering.

“India is a strong side. Physically, they have speed, technique and at everything India is better. In the first half, we were better till the first 20 minutes. Our boys don’t have enough experience, so we fell back during the game against such a strong team. I hope they’ll pick up lessons and understand from this experience to work better in the future.”

“The India team, the India team is very strong. I hope they are able to reach the World Cup in the future, I hope,” he added.

The Japanese was then quizzed about the AFC qualifiers. “Today, I said to our boys, India maybe is the same as Qatar. Qatar are very strong. It was a good preparation for us in this tournament.”
