Vasco have suffered four straight losses in the league…

Salgaocar Sports Club breezed past Vasco Sports Club as they sealed an easy 5-0 win in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today. Vasco were struggling in the bottom four of the league table as they were winless in the last three matches, while Salgaocar were also out of track in the last few matches but managed to edge past Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim in the last match. Vasco started without their star player Kingslee Fernandes who was serving a one-match suspension due to the double bookings in the last matches as U15 Flan Gomes found his name in the starting XI. Faizal Bepari also got his first start of the season for Vasco. Slagaocar head coach Norbert Gonsalves made only one change as Mackroy Peixote replaced U20 Denil Rebello. The Greens took just three minutes to open their tally when Keita Boubacar brilliantly headed home off Gilbert Oliveira’s short corner. They should have doubled their lead but Liston Colaco failed to keep his shot on target. Kamo Stephane Bayi wasted one more chance to increase the lead when he failed to beat a defender in the frame with Vasco keeper Shilton Fernandes out of position. Finally, Salgaocar extended the lead in the 15th minute when Liston blasted a powerful shot off Gilbert’s cross which finished in the net. Soon after the goal they had two back-to-back chances to increased the lead but Liston’s shot was very well blocked by Vasco keeper Shilton and later Kamo’s shot was blocked by defender Rovan Pereira. One more chance came Salagaocar’s way but Liston’s long-ranger was brilliantly fisted over the crossbar by Vasco keeper Shilton. On the half hour mark Salgaocar increased their lead when Liston’s lofted shot settled in the nylons off Gilbert’s cross from the right. Vasco keeper Shilton was the busiest person in the dying minutes of the first half, when one of his advancing blocks denied Kamo from scoring. Three minutes into the second half Salgaocar’s Mackroy’s placed shot from close range made it 4-0 for the port side. A few minutes later they should have increased their lead but this time again Vasco keeper Shilton stood tall to block Kamo’s goal bound shot. At the other end Salagaocar defender Asheer Akhtar almost scored an own goal when his clearing shot rebounded off the inside of the post. One more chance came Kamo’s way but the striker’s shot rebounded off the cross bar with the Vasco keeper beaten. In the dying minutes of the match Gilbert came up with two curling crosses, but first Liston failed to keep his sparkling volley on target and later James Fernandes’ header missed the target by hairline distance. Finally on 88 minutes, after wasting many chances Kamo showed his class with excellent placement after receiving a through pass from Souvik Das, to make it 5-0 for the Greens. After the full-time whistle Salgaocar head coach Norbert said, “After securing today’s win the competition for the title is open now. We just have a three- point gap between us and Sporting Clube de Goa. We will try to cover it in next few matches.” Today’s win will make no difference to Salagaocar’s standing as they will remain at 4th position with 18 points from 9 matches, while Vasco have 9 points from 9 matches and stand at 8th position in the league table.
