Liston Colaco scored a brace in the Greens' emphatic win... .
Salgaocar Football Club overpowered Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim as they beat them 4-0 in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium yesterday. SFC made only one change to their squad from the last match as Lenny Pereira replaced the injured Balwinder Singh. While Cresson Antao, Rayman Fernands and U20s Veegan Ferao and Aaren D’Silva were the four changes to the Cavelossim starting XI. The match started with some lazy football from both the sides. But as it progressed The Green Brigade dictated terms in the first half. Salgaocar took just 10 minutes to take the lead as Mackroy Peixoto found unmarked Liston Colaco who slotted into the Cavelossim’s nylons. In the very next minute SFC should have doubled their lead but Brian Mascarenhas failed to keep his shot on target after receiving a perfect cross from skipper Gilbert Oliverira. In the 18th minute Mackroy tried to set up Gilbert with a cross in the box but Cavelossim’s Raymond Fernandes came un with a timely clearance. On 26 minutes Gilbert’s shot from the edge of the box missed the target by hairline distance. Five minutes before the breather a thunderous shot from SFC’s U20 star Ronaldo Oliveira was pushed wide for a corner with a full stretched save from shot-stopper Agnelo Gomes. Both teams made two substitutions at halftime. At the hour mark Salgaocar doubled their lead. Jovel Martins produced a superb cross to substitute Naro H Shrestha who headed the ball into the net. In the 66th minute Salgaocar made it 3-0 following a scorching 25-yard shot from Liston Colaco which was too hot for keeper Agnelo to stop. Eight minutes later Gilbert tried his luck from 30 yards but the goal post denied it. Cavelossim had just one good attempt on the rival goal, but Joshuah Vaz's curling effort off a pass from Daulat Dessai sailed just past the far post. Few minutes before the final whistle, once again Jovel found Rosario Mendes who fired a curling volley into the back of opposition’s net to make it 4-0 for the Vasco club. SCC coach Severino Fernandes said, “Some of my players were not up to the mark today. We started well but our midfield was not working." While the Salgaocar coach was haapy with his team’s performance and said, “It was a great victory. We were expecting a good fight from them (SCC Cavelossim). We were prepared for the task. My boys played really well.” Salgaocar are unbeaten in the league now with 9 points from 3 matches. While Cavelossim have only 4 points in their basket with the same number of matches played.Report by Khel Now Correspondent Ravish Narvekar from Goa .
