The 10-day football coaching camp to be organised by Guwahati City FC (GCFC) from July 15 at Gauhati University playground will be technically assisted by one of the top I-League teams of the country – Shillong Lajong FC.

Lajong will provide the technical assistance like coaching and other support, to the youths who will join the camp, Larsing Ming Sawyan, Managing Director of Shillong Lajong FC confirmed on 4th July. The development took place following a meeting held between the Shillong Lajong MD and GCFC management at 'The Guwahati Address' Hotel in this regard. Meanwhile, Decathlon and GupShup 94.3 FM will also partner with GCFC for the camp and will provide their support in making a camp a mammoth success. The camp will be conducted in three categories- under 12, under 16 and under 22 age groups. The camp will be free for the BPL students and also for those who join it from orphanage home from anyplace of the region, says Kaustab Chakraborty, director of GCFC.

Talking exclusively to Khel Now, club director Kaustav Chakraborty said, "We plan to target the I-league in the next few years. It will not be a corporate entry because we want to cultivate the habit of winning and local players will be our priority. Yes, we will look at other options as well, but grooming Assam as a footballing destination stands first."

The camp will also provide special tips on diet and other technical aspects. Aspiring students from schools, colleges and universities can take part in this camp, where experienced coaches will train and motivate young players. Along with training, students will be advised on football ethics, fair play, proper diet, fitness and football career by experienced resource persons. Several noted football personalities from Assam as well as from other states of the region will be present on the last day of the camp for an exhibition match.

Chakraborty, when asked about the financial model, continued, "We're planning to get corporate sponsors/investors into the setup soon. All of these will be under action after the camp is over. If that does not work, we'll try getting funds from our own community."

We asked him on why Shillong Lajong FC and not Aizawl, the current hot property of Indian football? Chakraborty replied with a smile, "Aizawl FC is also with us and we have approached their guidance as well. For this camp, we've tied up with Shillong Lajong FC and we're sure every NorthEast club will support us in our initiative."
