Taleigao to finish their season at the bottom of the table...

Pawan Thakur scored two to help Corps of Signals to register a hammering 4-1 win over Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao in the Goa Professional League match played at the 3MTR Ground earlier today.

Signals were the dominant side in the entire match and enjoyed more of the possession. They got off to the perfect start as they managed to open their tally within the first 10 minute of the match. Taleigao goalkeeper Xavier Estrocio made a mistake while trying to clear a cross from the right flank, TH Roshan Singh was in the perfect position to tap the ball into the back of the net.

At the other end, Taleigao’s Jerose Oliveira's shot from distance went inches wide of the post. This was the only chance created by the North Goan club in the first session.

Signals further inflated their lead when Taleigao defender Gopi Gad brought down Lairellakpam Singh in the box to give away the spot-kick. Pawan stepped up and made no mistake to convert the same.

After the half-time break, Lairellakpam made it 3-0 for Signals when he ran down the left flank and curled the ball into the feet of Pawan, who in turn managed to cut it back into the six-yard box. Lairellakpam managed to race towards the ball before the Taleigao defenders and smashed the ball into the net. Ten minutes later Taleigao managed to pull one back on the counter-attack. Gautam Dias found well-positioned Manuel Fernandes in the box with a low cross  and he tapped the ball in.

Signals felt no effect of the conceded goal and once again came close to scoring but this time Pavan was denied by the crossbar. However, in the last few minutes, he scored his second and the team's fourth with a perfect shot from the edge of the box.

In the other match played at Tilak Maidan, Dempo Sports Club managed to hold Salgaocar FC to A high scoring 2-2 draw. Beevan D’Mello opened the tally for Dempo on the half hour mark but Kamo Stephane Bayi’s long ranger cancelled out Dempo’s lead. Salgaocar surged ahead in the second half, all thanks to a stunning goal from Jovel Martins but Milagres Gonsalves' header once again brought the Golden Eagles level.

With today’s defeat, Taleigao confirmed their relegation back to the First Division League. They have managed to grab only three points from 19 matches, while Signals have 16 points from the same number of matches played.
