Happy to sleep with her- Adrian after winning the UEFA Super Cup
The understudy became the cover story within just ten days of signing for Liverpool and now reminisces on his time with the Super Cup trophy with pride and gusto
Adrian has come a long way in his career, from struggling to get into the Betis first team, to go on to achieve continental glory with his current employers Liverpool. The 32-year old made the key save in the penalty shootout saving Tammy Abraham's penalty shot with his feet to lead Liverpool to their fourth UEFA Super Cup title.
In the process of saving the all-important penalty, he also won his first professional trophy.
It has been an incredible 10 days for the Spanish shot-stopper. Having signed on deadline day to provide backup to first-choice Alisson, Adrian was immediately called on following his Brazilian equivalent's hamstring injury that is expected to keep him out for 4-8 weeks at worst.
His inclusion turned out to be a serendipitous masterstroke as the events unfurled made Adrian earn the laurels of the Reds faithful.
Despite all the praise pouring in, Adrian was at his poignant best and considered the win to be the "most special moment" of his career which has spanned five clubs and two loan spells among them.
His feats in Istanbul made him the darling of the team and his team-mates made it even more special by allowing him to spend the night with the trophy, the goalkeeper said to the club's official website.
"I was having dinner with the guys after the game and I spoke with Millie (James Milner) and he said 'OK, do you want to take the trophy with you?" to which the Spaniard quipped saying "I will sleep with her, I'm more than happy to sleep with her".
He was all smiles when asked about Klopp's Rocky Balboa reference when asked of his heroics in the match saying "The manager was great at that moment. Everyone was happy, smiling in the situation as we were in a great moment. "
He dedicated the victory to Alisson who was absent from the team due to nursing the injury he attained in the opener against Norwich. He said, "Maybe he was not personally there but his help was there with us in Istanbul."
"After the game, he messaged me to which I replied "This is for you because you got the Champions League and now the Super Cup."
