The shot stopper turned hero in the penalty shootout win over the Blues.

Liverpool overcame Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup in the penalty shoot out as the two teams were not separable in the 120 minutes of the game. Both teams scored two goals themselves, one each in the regular time and one in the extra time.

Sadio Mane was the goalscorer twice for Liverpool while Frank Lampard's men found the back of the net through Olivier Giroud and Jorginho. The Blues were brought down in the consequent penalty shootout as Adrian saved Tammy Abraham's penalty.

Here are the five talking points from the game.

5. What should be Kante's playing position under Frank Lampard?

N'Golo Kante has been one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League without any shell of doubt in the past few years. When played in the centre in front of the defensive backline, Kante assures of stability like no other player.

But Maurizio Sarri changed the playing position of the French last season shifting him to the right to make way for Jorginho. Frank Lampard's system sees him start in the same position, but it does look like Kante moves back to the centre while defending. So where exactly should he play?

4. How often does Liverpool's midfield get overrun?

Liverpool's midfield has been a weakness for some time now. A midfield that has been accused to be lacking creativity has highly featured destroyers in different positions. For a team that is a defending champion of Europe, Liverpool would expect more from their midfield, especially after the availability of Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain.

Chelsea's midfield was all over Liverpool almost the entire game, with Liverpool struggling to get hold of the ball, especially in the first half. Chelsea would have players easily behind their midfield and enjoy lion's share of possession in the first half and even use it to a great effect.

3. Is Firmino indispensable in this Liverpool team?

Chelsea were all over Liverpool in the first half with Liverpool's midfield struggling in the first half, as mentioned above. But what brought life back in the Reds midfield was the introduction of Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino.

Firmino would drop deep in the midfield and bail the Reds out of difficult situations. Moreover, his importance can be more emphasized to the fact that both of Liverpool's goals had the involvement of the Brazilian forward.

2. Can Pulisic be what Chelsea need upfront?

Chelsea forwards struggled against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the opening game of Premier League. The likes of Pedro and Tammy Abraham were unable to find the back of the net, with multiple shots saved and some hitting the woodwork.

But the case against Liverpool for the Blues was much different as Frank Lampard's men found it comparatively easy. The difference for them was the inclusion of the American teenage sensation Christian Pulisic. The forward, who provided for the first, also scored one for himself which was to his dismay adjudged as an offside goal by VAR.

1. Is Adrian an able replacement for Alisson?

Liverpool's Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker is out of the team due to an injury. While the Brazilian is indispensable and would be in any team he plays for, he would miss some very important fixtures including two Champions League group stage games.

His replacement, Adrian, has shown himself to be up to the task as he turned out to be the better of the two goalkeepers in the shootout, while also impressing in the open-play throughout the 120 minutes of play, especially in one vs one situation, like the one against Mateo Kovacic in the first half.
