The tournament has already kicked off with an astounding Chennaiyin win over Mumbai City FC.

The Indian football season rolls onto its finale, with the Super Cup acting as the strawberry on top of the cake. Amidst all the controversy revolving around it, with I-League teams refusing to participate thanks to a cold war with the AIFF, the competition is set to move on.

There are some tasty match-ups in the fray, pitting some of India’s best against each other to earn bragging rights for their different leagues. Similarly, some of the best players in the two leagues will also be pit against each other.

Here we look at five players to watch out for in the Super Cup.

5. Surchandra Singh (Real Kashmir)

The 25-year-old had a stellar season with Real Kashmir, breaking through the ranks and helping them take the I-League by storm. Surchandra was himself a whirlwind on the right flank, moving forward with vigour and tormenting defenders with his unpredictability. His ability to roam into goal-scoring positions and fantastic set-piece prowess help the Snow Leopards time and again.

Singh scored three goals and assisted even more in 15 appearances in the I-League. After getting a move sealed to Mumbai City FC, he’ll aim to give a powerful pre-ISL audition by bamboozling his opponent and helping his side go further forward in the Super Cup.

4. Chencho Gyeltshen (NEROCA FC)

Chencho will look forward to cement his place under Renedy Singh

The Bhutanese Ronaldo has adapted into NEROCA FC really well after arriving from Bengaluru FC, complimenting their system and becoming the goal-scoring threat he’s known for. As the Orange Army start a new life under Renedy Singh, Chencho will aim to be the man to lead their charge in the Super Cup.

After having scored a couple of important goals in both the I-League and ISL, he knows how to unlock teams from each league. He’ll aim to take the NorthEast side farthest forward in the Super Cup, threatening with his pace, movement and cunning ability to score from out of nowhere.

3. Amarjit Singh Kiyam (Indian Arrows)

The midfielder has been one of the highlights of Indian Arrows' season

After having a stellar season in the I-League with Indian Arrows, Amarjit Kiyam looks to lead his side to success in the Super Cup as well. Kiyam was an integral part of Arrows’ success in the league, with his composed figure maintaining the tempo of their game. Kiyam’s fantastic distribution ability, the knack of creative passes and ability to hold things together worked well for the Arrows.

Not only did he score three crucial goals in the I-League, but he gave a masterclass against Kerala Blasters in the Super Cup qualifiers, scoring a brace. Kiyam seems ready to take everybody by storm and will definitely have an impact on Arrows result in the Super Cup.

2. Nestor Gordillo (Chennai City FC)

Nestor has been one of the best players of I-League this season

While everyone will have their eyes peeled on Pedro Manzi, Nestor Gordillo will aim to work his magic in the Super Cup after lighting up the I-League. The Spaniard was a crucial part of Chennai City’s I-League success, with his fantastic work through the left helping his side play some beautiful football throughout.

Nestor scored eight goals in the campaign, while also assisting quite a few and managed to get the best out of those around him. The Spaniard’s trickery, unpredictability in the final third could trouble oppositions and help Akbar Nawas’ team to continue their dominance in the Super Cup and prove themselves as champions of India.

Someone who never loses concentration nor energy is Udanta Singh, who might not have been able to impress in the final, but will aim to take the Super Cup by storm.

The Indian Flash scored five goals and assisted three in what was another prolific league campaign for him, but he’ll aim to take it up a notch in the Super Cup. Playing against sides from both leagues, he’ll use his electric pace, crossing and cunning goal-scoring ability to blow away everyone in Bengaluru’s path to success.
