After a hard fought win against the reigning champions Bengaluru FC, East Bengal Head Coach Trevor Morgan took a dig at his critics saying winning was the only solution to shut his criticisms. East Bengal had started their I-League campaign this season with a draw against Aizawl FC and the remaining two wins were not so convincing for the Red and Gold fanatics.

“To be fair the players fought well against criticisms, especially from all the experts,” said the East Bengal Head Coach. “The only way you can put the experts off your back is by getting three points,” he added. Morgan later took the heat to another level by saying that he expects to be safe from the criticisms for the next four days.

In the pre-match press conference, the English coach warned that he expects a good performance from the defending champions and his words came true in the match when Bengaluru took the lead in the 23rd minute. However, East Bengal equalized less than 10 minutes later and went on to win the match with a second half strike by forward Robin Singh.

“To be fair, they were a very good side,” said Morgan to the reporters. He also revealed that the half-time talk helped his players to get back to their original game. “We had some problems dealing with their formation in the first half, but we had a chat at half-time and sometimes you have to work hard,” he added. The 60-year old also said that he feels that the East Bengal players worked harder than those of Bengaluru FC and they won because of it. “They worked harder than the opposition and they got their reward for that, “said the East Bengal Coach to the reporters.

The former Dempo SC coach admitted that he found the equalizing goal satisfactory. “We got the goal back from a set-piece which was very pleasing,” said Morgan. The winning coach was also praiseful when asked if he feels Robin Singh was the turning point for East Bengal against the reigning champions. “Well you can say that I suppose because Robin got the winner,” he said.
