Who India could draw at the FIFA U-17 World Cup

The U-17 FIFA World Cup is now only three months away and we wait to see the fate of Team India in the group stages with the draw for the competition taking place on Friday. India are automatically placed in Group A by default because of being the hosts and things could get really tricky for them as they could be matched with any of the teams from the other pots in the draw.

There will be six groups comprising of four teams in the group stages, with two progressing from each group and four of the best 3rd place teams progressing to the Round of 16. Teams from Pot 1 will be seeded in each of the groups, with teams from the other pots being later placed in these six groups.

Now India cannot be drawn against the likes of Japan, Korea DPR or Iran because of them being part of the same confederation but with the likes of Spain, Chile and Colombia being part of the other pots, things could get interesting for the hosts. So let's have a look at what India probably have in store for Group A.

With some tricky opponents from pot 2, India could probably be drawn against England who had a really good U-17 UEFA Euros earlier this year where they reached the Final and with some well-known stars amongst their squad, they could be a real threat to team India. Pot 3 won't be that tricky as India cannot be drawn against Korea DPR and Iraq. The hosts will probably be drawn against Honduras. Although Honduras had an awful showing the last time they played in the U-17 FIFA World Cup in 2009, they have shown promise in the past few years and despite being a tricky opposition should be one against whom The Blues will prevail over.

The final pot in pot 4 is another really topsy-turvy one with some really good and bad teams as the hosts will probably get Ghana from that pot, with the African team having a really powerful unit who will be quite the physical task for the Blues. So team India's group will probably comprise of the hosts themselves, England, Honduras and Ghana and even though this looks like a tough group, the Indians will have a chance to prove themselves against the big opponents and progress to the latter stages by making a statement.
