Happy to see Liverpool win the Champions League- Raheem Sterling
The City winger considers the Premier League as the bigger prize when compared to continental glory.
Since swapping Merseyside for Manchester in 2015 under controversial circumstances, Raheem Sterling has made sure the transition was a smooth one winning two league titles, one FA Cup and two league cups including last year where he led his team to an unprecedented domestic quadruple.
When asked about his previous employers winning the Champions League, Sterling was all praise for his former team-mates winning the continental prize "I was really happy for them, happy for some of the players I know to lift the Champions League," he said.
When asked to weigh in on which was the more prestigious trophy to win, the Jamaica-born forward was quick to point out that for him the Premier League trophy was the most prized possession despite acknowledging the stardom that continental success brings.
Sterling said, "The Premier League is your bread and butter, every weekend, what you train for every day. The Champions League is the nicer looking one, the most prestigious as people say, but every weekend you put in a shift, you're going to tough places. You're off to Crystal Palace, Burnley. It's tough. You put so much time into it."
Sterling lauded the team's efforts which won them the quadruple last year and is motivated to win the Premier League this year despite understanding the difficulties surrounding the consistency of such an achievement, saying "It was a good season for me, as with a lot of the boys, but it's trying to get better as a player. It'll be harder than last season. To do this three times in a row is a massive challenge for us. It's a challenge we're definitely up for."
When asked about the influence of Pep Guardiola on his game, Sterling was profuse in his adulation of the former Barcelona manager stating his knowledge of the game and the tips he provides to improve, stating, "He helps me along the way in terms of little details, doing things a little simpler and taking a lot more care."
"I take a lot of positives from him, purely by the way he carries himself, the way he sets those high standards. It rubs off. That has improved me the most – the standards he sets. It makes sure I don't fall from my standards."
