It has been more than nine years since the Spaniard lifted the Champions League trophy.
Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City manager has been rather outspoken in his assessment of the season that the club is having in recent weeks, having conceded that his side is out of the title race. The success crazed Spaniard's latest claim is that his position at the helm of the Manchester club could be put into doubt should he fail to beat Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. The Cityzens face off against Los Blancos in the last 16 of the competition on the 27th of February, with the reigning Premier League champions blowing hot and cold this season and Real Madrid sitting at the top of the LaLiga table. [KH_ADWORDS type="4" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS] "I want to win the Champions League," Guardiola told Sky Sports while arguing that failing to win the competition doesn't necessarily mean a failed season for City. Pep Guardiola continued, "I'm dreaming of it and I'm excited about preparing for the game against Madrid for the next two weeks. This process and these two weeks before [the game] will be the happiest two weeks of my profession." "If we don't beat them, then the chairman or sporting director will come and say, 'it's not good enough, we want the Champions League, I'm going to sack you.'" Guardiola maintains a decent record against the Galacticos, ending up on the losing side in only four of his 17 encounters. Further on in the interview, when the issue was pushed, Guardiola admitted that he was unaware of any plans to terminate his stint at Manchester City. City will now look to the cup competitions and the Champions league as a means to save their season, having already made it to the final of the Carabao Cup where they will meet Aston Villa on the 1st of March.Latest News
