Records and Cristiano Ronaldo’s name always go hand in hand. Throughout his glittering career, the Portuguese striker has added several landmarks to his name. Since stepping into Europe’s biggest club competition viz the Champions League, the 33-year-old has owned it completely. Be it with Manchester United or Real Madrid, Ronaldo has never failed to deliver in this competition. After Madrid’s 13th Champions League triumph last week, the Portuguese star has added few more records to his awe-inspiring list.

1. All-time top scorer (120 goals)

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored a staggering 120 goals in a mere 153 appearances in the Champions League so far at a ratio of 0.78 goals per game, which makes him the all-time top scorer.  He has 20 more than second place Lionel Messi who has 100 goals.

2. Most Assists (37)

26 assists In the Champions League with Real Madrid between 2010-2017

The Portuguese striker not only has lethal finishing skills, but also creates great chances for his teammates. With 37 assists, Ronaldo is leading the charts for the most number of assists in Champions League history. 

3. Most Hat-tricks ( 7 sharing with Lionel Messi)

The striker jointly holds the top spot for the most number of hat-tricks sharing the record with his counterpart Messi. Ronaldo also has the record for the shortest spell between two hat-tricks after scoring back-to-back hat-tricks in a span of 14 days against Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid in the 2016-17 season. The Real striker is also the only player to score more than two hat-tricks in a single season, scoring three in 2015-16. 

4. The first player to score in three Champions League finals

Ronaldo scored the opening goal of the 2008 final during his United days, a brace against Juventus in the 2016-17 showpiece and the last penalty against Atletico Madrid in the 2015-16 finale, making him the only player to score in three Champions League finals.

5. The first player to score in all six group stage games (2017-18)

A brace against APOEL in both  games, three goals in two legs against Dortmund and a goal in each game against Tottenham Hotspur made Ronaldo the first player to score in all group stage games. 

6. Longest scoring streak (11 games)

A streak which started in Cardiff in the 2016-17 final against Juventus, finally came to an end after 11 games as Ronaldo failed to score in the first leg of this season’s semi-final against Bayern Munich.

7. The first player to score 100 goals for the same club

The amount of success Ronaldo has achieved with Los Blancos is beyond description. With 15 goals this season, became the first player to score 100 goals for the same club in the competition. The striker has 105 goals from 101 matches for the Bernabeu side. 

8. Most goals scored in a single Champions League season (17 in 2013-14)

Ronaldo helped his side to win their 10th Champions league title with his lethal finishing skills, scoring 17 goals in the 2013-14 season. He also achieved the record for the most number of goals scored in a single Champions League season.

9. Top scorer for sixth consecutive season (7 overall)

The Portuguese may have failed to score a single goal since the last minute penalty in the second leg of the quarterfinal against Juventus, but still managed to achieve the top the season’s charts with 15 goals. Ronaldo has grabbed this laurel for a record sixth consecutive time and seventh overall.

10. The first player to win five Champions League titles

After UEFA renamed the European Cup to the Champions Trophy in 1992, Ronaldo is the first player to lift the coveted title for the fifth time.

At 33 years of age, Ronaldo is still full of zest and energy just like he has been throughout his career. The incredible hunger for achieving more and more glory and maintaining top class fitness standards indicates that there are still plenty of records to be created by him.
