The Stallions grabbed a late win against FC Goa…
FC Pune City defeated FC Goa 1-2 in an Indian Super League match played at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Goa yesterday. Despite a dominant performance by Zico’s men Pune’s Spanish Coach Miguel Martinez Gonzalez denied the fact that FC Goa outclassed the Stallions in the major parts of the match. “We were not lucky. We worked, we kept the pace, we controlled the game and we kept faith to win the match. We also created some chances in the match. We deserved to win this game,” said Miguel. “During the first half, we were controlling the game. But we did a mistake in the defense and conceded one,”he further added. Former Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko also made his ISL debut in the game and played a major role in Pune’s victory. When asked about the performance of his new marquee player he said, “Sissoko was excellent today. He is a top class player; he is fit and will give us what we want.” He also mentioned that Jonatan Lucca was brilliant and combined very well with Sissoko. Miguel also revealed the conversation the team management had with Head Coach Antonio Habas who is still serving a touchline ban. “After talking to Habas, we decided we cannot just keep building the team, now is the moment to start targeting the points. Today we got the three points. Now we have three games at home and these games are very crucial for us to get the nine points which will help us to go ahead in the league and qualify for the semis. We start with NorthEast united and we know they are in good form but we are playing at home and with this win, it will increase our confidence to play well,” FC Pune City play their next three matches at home as they host NorthEast United FC on 12th October, while Kerala Blasters and Chennaiyin FC will follow at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium, Pune.
