Chennai City rued missed chances and the absence of key players as they succumbed in Pune...

The newcomers in the Hero I-League 2017 Chennai City went down to DSK Shivajians with a 2-0 scoreline, a result that seemed fair. Chennai failed to provide any real threat upfront and defensive indiscipline cost the visitors on the night.

The Chennai team was also without star custodian Kranjit Singh, with the 31-year old sitting out with some muscle problem. Robin Charles Raja was fully aware of the loss stating, "We missed Karanjit and Haroon Amiri. We were not able to hold the ball up top and we also missed chances. I couldn't see the second goal. It made the difference. We need the foreign stars. We need to get it sorted."

The head coach also felt his side's attack was ineffective on the night. "I wanted to attack with two strikers. I felt like (Malsawmfela) Fela would do the job, but he couldn’t," said the 50-year old.

As a squad, the team from Tamil Nadu has only had a month's training to gel and prepare for the I-League. Their debut season has been rushed and Raja opined that it was not ideal preparation. "When you compare us to others, everyone has a good team. DSK source players from the academy and they have players who have been here for long. So they have been able to gel. We're taking one game at a time. We'll bounce back." he signed off.
