The strong doubles pairing of Dabrowski and Olmos were ousted from the competition in a major upset

Iga Swiatek dominated from the baseline to defeat Daria Kasatkina of Russia 6-2, 6-3 to reach the Australian Open fourth round. Kasatkina, a former top 10 player, had won the pair’s sole prior meeting in 2021, although that match was on grass. The former French Open winner struck 24 winners. She broke Kasatkina’s serve twice in each set to win in 1 hour and 34 minutes on Margaret Court Arena.

Tsitsipas breezes through

Stefanos Tsitsipas dominated his way to the last 16 of the men’s singles division of the Australian Open. He thus maintained his status as one of the favourites to win the competition, in the absence of Novak Djokovic.

The fourth seed didn’t quite achieve it his way, but he nevertheless advanced to the fourth round in Melbourne, defeating the bearded Benoit Paire 6-3, 7-5, 6-7 (2), 6-4 in 2 hours and 42 minutes.

Major upset in women’s doubles

The pair of Kirsten Flipkens and Sara Sorribes Tormo, ranked 258 and 120 respectively, created the shock of the day at the Australian Open. They surprised the pair of Gabriela Dabrowski ranked No. 5 and Giullana Almos ranked No. 19. They won the match in 2 hours and 37 minutes by 6-4, 6 (3)-7 (7) and 6-2. As a consequence of this win, the duo has earned a spot in the Australian Open’s Round of 16.

Simona Halep crushes Danka Kovinic

Former World No. 1 Simona Halep destroyed Danka Kovinic’s Australian Open ambitions to go to the Round of 16. Kovinic had earlier ousted US Open champion Emma Raducanu from the tournament. The two-time Grand Slam champion used all of her expertise to defeat her opponent 6-2, 6-1. She thus entered the last 16 of the competition for the sixth year in a row.

Daniil Medvedev defeats Van de Zadschulp

Daniil Medvedev advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open for the fourth time in a row by defeating Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets. The second seed won the match 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. The encounter spanned 1 hour and 55 minutes. It featured scintillating shot-making and tension-filled exchanges.
