In the mixed doubles, Ishaan and Tanisha also exited in Round 1.

India is off to a poor start at the BWF Hylo Open 300 with Indian top seed and All England silver medallist Lakshya Sen and the young pairing of Ishan/Tanisha Crasto losing the opening encounters without putting up much fight.

Upsetting Results

Lakshya Sen the 21-year-old lost to Ng Ka Long Angus from Hong Kong in straight sets. The first set was a bit competitive but the second set was one-way traffic where Sen looked totally of colour a sign of concern going into the World Tour Finals in China. Angus at one point took away nine straight points the highest conceded by the Indian youngster.

In the mixed doubles, the Indian duo of Ishan Bhatnagar/Tanisha Crasto lost to the Chinese pair Feng Yang Zhe/Huang Dong Ping in straight sets (13-21, 12-21). The young pair had a good maiden senior season overall with Ishaan Bhatnagar showing good improvements throughout the 2022 season. The pair will now look to start preparing for the most important 2023 season which is also the Olympic qualification year.

Many Indians are yet to start their campaign at the Hylo Open - Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy, Sameer Verma, Malvika Bansod, Saina Nehwal, and the French Open 750 champions Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty.

Sameer Verma is coming into the tournament with good form beating 6th seed Ginting at the French Open and has also risen to the 28th rank in the BWF rankings.

The Hylo Open will be the second last tournament for the 2022 season with the Australia Open still left and most of the Indians will look to end the year on a good note winning as many matches as possible.
