The hosts recently played two matches against Spain.
Indian men's hockey team will not play their upcoming FIH Hockey Pro League matches against Germany after a high number of COVID-19 cases surfaced in the visitors' camp.
Both the teams were scheduled to play two matches at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on 12 and 13 March. However, they will now play on alternate dates to go further in their FIH Hockey Pro League campaigns.
In a statement, the FIH remarked, "The FIH Hockey Pro League matches between India and Germany (Men), initially scheduled on 12 and 13 March in Bhubaneswar, India, have been postponed due to a high number of COVID cases affecting the German team. FIH, Hockey India and Hockey Germany are already working together to find alternative dates."
It further added, "The women’s teams' matches between India and Germany will be played as planned this weekend at the Kalinga Stadium, in Bhubaneswar."
India have been in fine form in the tournament so far. The Indian team have played a total of six matches in the Pro League and currently sit in second position in the points table. Manpreet Singh's men have won four and lost two matches in the competition so far and will look to register some remarkable victories against Germany.
They played a double-header against Spain recently. In the first match, India made a remarkable comeback to defeat the visitors, but failed to replicate the performance in the second clash. The hosts went down 4-1 to Spain at one point of time in the first match. But, somehow the host nation drew on every reserve of energy to score four goals, including a dramatic penalty stroke in the final five seconds to win the match 5-4 and move to second in the tournament's points table.
