French Open 2022: Iga Swiatek and Marin Cilic record wins to reach semis
The prestigious tournament is heading into its business end.
French Open 2022 has been a huge success with a lot of delicious matches for the fans to witness. Across the multiple categories, plenty of upsets and sensational performances took place at the Roland Garros in Paris, France. In the next few days, the tournament will see highly competitive fixtures as the Grand Slam reaches its final days.
Top seed Iga Swiatek made her way into the semi-final in Women's Singles by beating Jessica Pegula in straight sets. The winner of the 2020 edition of the French Open secured a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 win over the 11th seeded American.
Iga Swiatek sets up a meeting with Daria Kasatkina who is the 20th seeded player at the French Open 2022. In the meeting with the Russians, Kasatkina got the better of Veronika Eduardovna Kudermetova by a 6-4, 7-6(7-5) score. She will have her work cut out in the next round against the World's No.1 player in Women’s Singles.
In a major upset, top seeds Rajiv Ram and Joe Salisbury lost to Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek in the Men’s Doubles category. The three-setter epic encounter saw the unseeded pair emerge victorious thanks to a 3-6, 7-6(11-9), 7-6(12-10) score.

In Men’s Singles of the French Open, Casper Ruud took four sets to record an impressive win over Holger Rune of Denmark. The eighth seed won the match by a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6(7-2),6-3 score to make his way into the semi-final. He will now face the veteran Marin Cilic who managed to beat Andrey Rublev in a gruelling five-setter contest. The Croatian won the contest against Rublev by a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(10-2) score. It will be interesting to see if Ruud takes advantage of the physical condition of the 33-year-old after a long drawn out game.
Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos secured a comeback win against Neal Skupski and Wesley Koolhof in Men’s Doubles. Despite losing the first set, the duo won the match by a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 score. They will lock horns with the pairing of Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek, who beat the top seeds in the bracket.
Over in the Mixed Doubles, the final participants were decided as second seeds Wesley Koolhof and Ena Shibahara defeated third seeds John Peers and Gabriela Dabrowski thanks to a 6-3, 6-4 score. The pair will challenge Joran Vliegen and Ulrikke Eikeri for the title on Thursday.
