The Indian contingent of athletes continued their impressive performance in the shooting world championships.

The ISSF World Cup 2021, which is underway in New Delhi, has seen India add three more medals to its tally. On the seventh day of the world championships, India won gold and bronze medals in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Mixed Team event and a silver in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men’s event respectively.

In the mixed team event, India’s pair Sanjeev Rajput and Tejaswini Sawant struck gold. They defeated the Ukranian pair of Serhiy Kulish and Anna Ilina in a closely fought encounter with a final score of 31-29.

The other duo competing in the finals, Sunidhi Chauhan and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar also finished on the podium, as they clinched bronze. They defeated the American pair of  Timothy Sherry and Virginia Thrasher in the Bronze medal match by 31-15.

In the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men’s event, there were three Indian athletes in the running out of six competitors, namely Vijayveer Sidhu, Gurpreet Singh and Anish Singh. The other three places were occupied by highly-rated Estonia’s Peeter Olesk, Peru’s Mark Carrillo and Poland’s Oskar Miliwek.

India’s Vijayveer Sidhu won the silver medal in the final after losing out to Estonia’s Peeter Olesk. The final two places were decided by a shoot-off after both Sidhu and Olesk had incredibly finished with 26 points each. The Estonian came away a 4-1 winner in a well-fought tie-breaker.

However, the other two athletes had a disappointing outing. Gurpreet Singh finished in sixth place with a score of nine points after the first 20 shots. He was soon followed by Anish Singh, who finished in fifth place, with a score of 13 points after 25 shots.

Marko Carrillo of Peru finished fourth with 16 points. The bronze medal was secured by Poland’s Oskar Miliwek, who ended with 20 points in the final.
