The boxers showcased their talents in front of a limited audience.
Telangana's minister for sports and youth Affairs, V Srinivas Goud launched a new professional boxing league "Club Fights" in Hyderabad on Saturday.
Former chief national boxing coach Emani Chiranjeevi, former national boxing coach Omkarnath Yadav and chairman of Sports Authority of Telangana State Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy were also present on the occasion.
A total of five fights took place in front of a limited audience. Savio Michael faced Kundeti Raju while Keshav Sama took on Gnaneshwar. Vijay Kumar and Kuthadi Aravind fought Trijot Singh and Nitin Raj respectively. Abhinay Kumar had a great fight against Suresh Pasham.
"Club Fights is designed to be one of the largest grassroots boxing programmes that will host different boxing clubs to compete, from there the champions are handpicked and fostered for further growth. To start with, we have eight clubs in Hyderabad who would be sending their teams to participate in a 15 week Hyderabad Boxing League starting from January 2020. All the participants and winners are awarded monetary benefits besides giving them an international break", said Kailashnath Yadav, CEO of Red Corner Sports Promotions.
Venkateshwar Reddy assured support to the Club Fights and Boxing Council team to promote and develop boxing in the Telangana region. He appreciated the efforts of the Red Corner Sports Promotions and briefed media about the plans and measures both Red Corner Sports Promotions and the Sports Authority of Telangana State are taking to host a bouquet of professional boxing events in the near future.
Club Fights is not just another sports league, it is a platform that brings to the forefront champions amongst us - representing the sweat and struggles of millions of us who start small but aspire to fight till the last second for success and glory.
It has a group of talented fighters who have had to fight against all odds both inside and outside the ring for everything they have achieved. They are here to inspire us as they fight for their existence and for their dreams.
