Sathiyan Gnanasekaran has been the face of Indian table tennis for a while now. The Chennai-born star sportsperson is currently ranked 38th in the ITTF Table Tennis World Ranking. 

The 29-year-old has brought many accolades to the nation and his fitness and quick reflexes have always been a source of great inspiration.  

Sathiyan Gnanasekaran ditched his job at an MNC to become a professional table tennis player. This decision surely worked for him and made him what he is today. 

Here we take a look at the top five achievements of Sathiyan Gnanasekaran: 

5. ITTF Challenge Belgium Open title

Sathiyan Gnanasekaran announced himself on the world stage in table tennis when he won the ITTF Challenge Belgium Open title in the men's singles category in September 2016.

This was his first ITTF World Tour title. In the final match played at De Haan in Belgium, he defeated local player Nuytinck Cedricl. With this victory, he became the first Indian table tennis player to win an ITTF event on European soil. 

4. Gold medal at ITTF Challenge - Spanish Open 

2017 was a special year for Sathiyan Gnanasekaran where he won gold at the ITTF Challenge - Spanish Open, in Almeria (2017) in the men's singles category and created history by becoming the first Indian player to win two ITTF World Tour titles. 

3. Won three medals at Commonwealth Games, Australia 

In April 2018, The Indian table tennis star won three medals at his debut Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast, Australia. He also played an important role by winning both his matches against Japan in the men's team category quarterfinals and won a historic bronze medal at the Asian Games 2018 held in Jakarta, for the first time ever after a gap of 60 years. 

2. Bronze medal at Asian Games 2018 

Sathiyan Gnanasekaran won a bronze medal in the Asian Games 2018 held in Jakarta. It was one of his biggest achievements as the paddler defeated some big names en route to the medal. He got a lot more confident after this victory and registered big wins in the upcoming tournaments.

1. Competed at 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo 

In 2021, Sathiyan competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. The Indian paddler lost in the second round to World No. 95 Lam Siu Hang of Hong Kong. However, it created a milestone in Indian sporting history.
