The hosts have won six medals in the tournament so far.
The Indian trio of Aishwary Tomar, Deepak Kumar and Pankaj Kumar had to settle for a silver medal in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle Team event at the ISSF World Cup in Delhi, despite showing early signs of promise.
India started the match really well, as they raced to a 4-0 lead early on and furthered it to a dominant 8-2 before eventual gold medal winners Team USA, reduced the lead one round at a time.
The Americans managed to bridge the gap and enforce a stalemate at 8 before the Indians pushed hard again to move closer to victory. The score stood at 14-10 for the hosts, but an inspired comeback from the American trio saw the Indians settle for second place. In the end, the USA won the match by a close margin of 16-14 to seal gold at the ISSF World Cup.
Lucas Kozeniesky, William Shaner and Timothy Sherry formed part of the American unit. South Korea defeated Iran to win the bronze medal in the event.
Good performance by Indian shooters in qualifying rounds.
Earlier in the day a stellar showing in qualification allowed the Indians to make it to the gold medal match alongside team USA.
Elsewhere, in the women’s event, India had to settle for fourth place. The team qualified for the bronze medal match, but the trio of Apurvi Chandela, Nisha Kanwar and Shriyanka Sadangi failed to make a statement against the team from Poland, who breezed to victory with a final score of 17-7.
The Indian women's team started strong scoring the first two points, but failed to make that momentum count as they slipped continuously in their bid for a medal. Anieta Stankiewicz, Natlaia Kochanska and Aleksandra Szutko took third place honours.
The gold medal was won by team Denmark who beat team USA comfortably with a score of 16 to 8.
