6:51 PM That's it for today from the Tokyo Olympics. It has been a mixed day for the Indian athletes, while Mirabai Chanu clinched the Silver medal, we saw young Saurabh Chaudhury finish seventh in the 10m Men's Air Pistol finals. The Archer Mixed team pair of Deepika and Pravin Jadhav also bowed out after losing to the South Koreans in the quarterfinals. However, both Manika Batra and Sutirtha Mukherjee gave us a lot to smile at with their respective wins in Badminton Women's Singles. The India Men's Hockey team started with a nail-biting 3-2 win over New Zealand. We now await the events for tomorrow don't forget to join us again!

6:45 PM Women's Hockey: The Netherlands took an early lead via Felicia Albers but rain Rampal's quick reply gave some hope to the Indian fans. The Indian Eves held the Netherlands to 1-1 at the break. However, the Dutch team came back strongly as they took the lead through van Geffen. Frederique Malta also increased the lead beating a porous Indian defence before Albers added one more to her tally. Lastly, van Maasakker piled up the misery, finishing a great second half. The Indian team showed heart and there were plenty of positives from their first half performance. Rani along with Sushila Chanu and some other players played really well and now they will look forward to their clash against Germany.

Mirabai Chanu bags silver, earns India’s first medal at Tokyo Olympics

Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal in the Women’s Weightlifting 49kg category at the Tokyo Olympics. She became the first Indian athlete to win a medal at the Olympic Games this year and the first-ever to win silver in women’s weightlifting for the country.

06:25 AM Shooting - Women's 10m air rifle event sees both shooters crash out in the qualifiers. Elavenil was placed 15th missing top 8 by a mere 2 points. Apurvi shot 621.9 and was placed 36th. Jeanette Hegg Duestad of Norway finished first in the qualifiers with a score of 632.9.

Shooting kicks-off India's Day 2 Campaign

4:55 AM The first event of the day involving Indians will take place at Camp Asaka. Elavenil Valarivan, current World No.1 and medal hopeful will be competing the Women's 10m Air Rifle event. She will be competing alongside Apurvi Chandela, the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medalist.

Several medal hopefuls will be in action today.

4:45 AM Four medals will be at stake on Day 2 of the Tokyo Olympics for the Indian contingent. World No. 1 Elavenil Valarivan and World No. 11 Apurvi Chandela are the two Indian shooters who will begin the day for the Indian contingent. They will compete in the Women's 10m Air Rifle event.

This will be followed by Deepika Kumari and Pravin Jadhav teaming up for the archery mixed team event. Reigning Commonwealth Games champion weightlifter Mirabai Chanu will next be in action in the women's 49kg weight category. The focus will then shift to Manpreet Singh-led Indian men's hockey team. They will lock horns with New Zealand in their opening match, as they aim to usher in a new era.

Judoka Sushila Devi will hope for an upset over London 2012 bronze medallist Eva Csernovickzi in the Judo Women's 48kg. After that, the duo of Arun Jat and Ajit Singh will be in action in rowing men's lightweight double sculls.

Tough challenge awaits for Indians in racket sports

Sumit Nagal will then face the challenge of Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin in the tennis men's first round. Next up on the menu will be racket sports. Manika Batra and Sharath Kamal will face the World No. 4 Chinese Taipei duo of Ju-Yun Lin and Cheng-I Cheng in the mixed doubles.
