The quadrennial event will see more Indians in action as they strive for medals.

Indian para-athletes are busy giving their all at the ongoing 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan. The contingent has managed to surpass their previous best of four medals already. India’s medal tally stood at seven medals after the conclusion of the action on 30 August 2021.

There is hope for more Paralympic medals for India as para-shuttler Pramod Bhagat begins his campaign in badminton. In addition, Dharambir Nain and Amit Kumar are also in contention to win medals in the Club Throw F51 final. 

The para-athletes have already made India proud due to their achievements. Up until now, India has won two gold medals thanks to Avani Lekhara and Sumit Antil in shooting and javelin throw respectively. Devendra Jhajharia also wrote his name in the history by becoming only the second para-athlete from India to win three medals. He won silver in the Javelin Throw F46 event.

However, there is still a lot to play for. Here is a preview of what is in store on Day 8 of the Tokyo Paralympics.

Badminton: Mixed Doubles SL3-SU5

Pramod Bhagat, the ace para-shuttler will be teaming up with Palak Kohli in the Mixed Doubles bracket at the Tokyo paralympics. The pair will clash against Lucas Mazur and Faustine Noel of France in Group B. The Indians are a strong hope for a medal in their bracket and will hope to secure a comfortable win.

Badminton: Women’s Singles SU5

Palak Kohli will also be in action in the Women’s Singles SU5 category at the Tokyo Paralympics. The para-shuttler will be up against Japan’s Ayako Suzuki who will be motivated playing in her own country. The Group A contest is going to attract a lot of attention.

Badminton: Men’s Singles SL3

One of India’s biggest medal contenders Pramod Bhagat will be in action in the Men’s Singles SL3 category too at the Tokyo Paralympics . The World No.1 para-shuttler is representing India for the first-time after badminton’s inclusion in this edition of the Paralympics. It will be interesting to see how Bhagwat performs against Manoj Sarkar in the group fixture.

Shooting: Mixed 10m air rifle prone SH1

India’s Sidhartha Babu will be in action in qualification rounds of the shooting event at the Tokyo Paralympics . He will be playing in the Mixed 10m air rifle prone positions SH1 category. The para-shooter will aim to secure qualification into the finals.

Athletics: Men’s Club Throw F51

Indian pair of Dharambir Nain and Amit Kumar Saroha will be representing the country in the final of the Men’s Club Throw F51 event at the Tokyo Paralympics . The duo will like to add more medals in the overall tally. All eyes will be on their performance in the finals.
