Indian para-shuttlers take centre stage at the quadrennial event on September 2. 

The Tokyo Paralympics 2020 are heading into the latter stages. The Indian contingent has won a lot of hearts with their incredible performances. The para-athletes have already surpassed the previous best of four medals, with 10 medals overall till now. 

However, there are still hopes of Indians winning more medals and adding to that tally. The para-shuttlers are flexing their muscles and aiming to reach the latter stages in their respective categories. In addition, eyes will also be on shooting and athletics as well, as the para-athletes aim to add to Avani Lekhara and Sumit Antil’s gold medals

Day 9 of the quadrennial event has a lot of action in store for the fans. Here is a brief preview of what is to come at the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics on September 2:

Badminton: Men’s Singles SL4

Badminton is one of the main sports in focus on Thursday at the Tokyo Paralympics. Several para-shuttlers will take center stage after getting to represent their country at the Paralympics for the first time. In the Men’s Singles SL4 category, Tarun Dhillon will take on Thailand’s Siripong Teamarrom in Group A.

The contest begins at 6:50 AM IST

Another Indian in the Men’s Singles SL4 category is Suhas Yathiraj, who will take on Jan Niklas Pott of Germany. This will be a Group B clash between the two. 

The match begins at 6:10 AM IST

Badminton: Men’s Singles SL3

One of the main attractions on Day 9 of the Tokyo Paralympics is Pramod Bhagat’s Group B match against Ukraine’s Oleksandr Chyrkov. The Indian para-shuttler is a strong medal hopeful. Manoj Sarkar is also in the same group and will be vying to get into the knockout stages.

Badminton: Men’s Singles SH6

The Men’s Singles SH6 category will see Krishna Nagar up against Didin Taresoh of Malaysia. Indian para-shuttler will hope to secure victory in this Group B clash at the Tokyo Paralympics. 

The contest begins at 9:30 AM IST

Badminton: Women’s Singles SL4

India’s Parul Parmar will be up against China’s Hefang Cheng in the Women’s Singles SL4 category at the Tokyo Paralympics. This match will begin around 8:50 AM IST. Later in the day, Parul Parmar will again be in action, this time against Germany’s Katrin Seibert.

The second encounter begins at 2:30 PM IST

Badminton: Women’s Singles SU5

Palak Kohli will be playing in the Women’s Singles SU5 category in her second match at the Tokyo Paralympics. She will be up against Zehra Baglar of Turkey in Group A. 

The match begins at 10:10 AM IST

Canoe Sprint: Women’s Va’a Single 200m – VL2 Heats

Prachi Yadav will be the sole representative for India in canoeing at the Tokyo Paralympics. She will begin her campaign in the heats of the Women’s Va’a Single 200m event. 

The heat begins at 6:10 AM IST

Taekwondo: Women’s K44 – 49 kg Round of 16

India’s Aruna Tanwar will be in action against Danijela Jovanovic of Serbia in the Round of 16 bout at the Tokyo Paralympics. Taekwondo is a tough sport and Aruna will be carrying a lot of Indian hopes in the event.

Athletics: Men’s Shot Put F35 Final

India has a strong chance of winning another medal from Arvind Malik. The para-athlete will participate in the final of the Men’s Shot Put F35 category at the Tokyo Paralympics. 

The contest begins at 4:28 PM IST

Shooting: P3 Mixed 25m Pistol SH1 – Precision Qualification

The Indian pair of Rahul Jakhar and Aakash will take part in the precision round of the mixed 25m pistol qualifiers at the Tokyo Paralympics. The top eight shooters will qualify into the finals, after highest overall score from both precision and rapid rounds.

The action begins at 5:15 AM IST
