These players have the potential to reach the highest level in the sport.

Over the years, Indian tennis has seen many ups and downs on the International circuit. Players like Ramanathan Krishnan, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi have always kept the Indian flag soaring high with their spectacular performances. However, with most of these Indian tennis greats calling it a day, the country is experiencing a surge of many upcoming tennis stars in the men’s singles category who hold tremendous potential. 

At the Tokyo Olympics, Indian tennis faced another downfall returning back to the country without any strong performance. The time is ripe to focus on the upcoming stars who can display strong performance in International circuits and bring back medals to the Indian shores.

Here are the top five upcoming men’s singles players in Indian tennis.

5. Nishant Dabas 

Ranked no. 2 in India U-18 category, Nishant Dabas is the highest-ranked Indian player as per the ITF Junior rankings. He is currently ranked 115 in the world junior circuit. The 17-year-old has displayed consistent performances over the last couple of years to reach this stage. The starlet is currently training under coach Zeeshan Ali in Delhi.

Recently, he won his maiden ITF singles trophy by beating Moroccan Walid Ahouda 6-0, 6-4 at the J2 event held in Cairo, Egypt. Previously, he has won a couple of doubles events as well. 

4. Aman Dahiya 

Dahiya is the second-highest ranked Indian tennis junior player in the world, currently ranked 183 as per the recent ITF rankings. Moreover, the 17-year-old is the fourth highest-ranked Indian U-18 player as per the AITA rankings. 

Hailing from Haryana, the youngster is currently training at the Altevol Academy in Ahmedabad. Notably, he has had a prolific 2021 season so far, winning four ITF titles in J4 Chandigarh, J5 Indore, J4 Kathmandu and J5 Kathmandu.

3. Chirag Duhan 

Another upcoming tennis star from Haryana, Chirag Duhan is the highest-ranked Indian U-18 player as per the AITA rankings. He is the newly crowned National Junior Champion. Moreover, he is the third highest-ranked Indian junior player in the world, currently ranked 215 as per the recent ITF rankings. The 17-year-old has won three titles in 2021 – J4 Chennai, J4 Gurugram and J4 New Delhi. 

2. Denim Yadav 

Yadav is the fifth highest-ranked player in India as per the recent AITA rankings. Moreover, he is the fourth-highest Indian player on the ITF rankings list, currently ranked 296 in the world. The 17-year-old hails from Madhya Pradesh and has won two titles in 2021 till now – J4 Hyderabad and J5 Madurai. 

1. Adil Kalyanpur

Adil is another future prospect for Indian tennis who has started competing in the men’s circuit as well. The tall right-handed player is ranked 1110 in men’s world ATP rankings and 658 as per the recent ITF rankings. Though the 21-year-old from Bengaluru is yet to win a title, he still shows promise to represent Indian tennis at the highest stage. 

Most of these players have been doing extremely well in the junior circuit. Indian tennis has witnessed several developments with respect to coaching, training, and academies. With proper care on fitness and training, all these starlets can help in uplifting the quality of the sport in India with their performances once they reach the senior circuit.
