US Open 2022: Aryna Sabalenka to face Iga Swiatek in semi-final of Women’s Singles

The tenth day of the Grand Slam had plenty of exciting contests and interesting results.

The 2022 US Open is heading towards its business end. For the past few days, brilliant tennis action has kept spectators entertained at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City. There were several high-profile players in action on the tenth day of the Grand Slam including America’s Frances Tiafoe, who defeated Rafael Nadal in the Round of 16.

The 22nd seed was up against Andrey Rublev and took three sets to win the contest by a 7-6(7-3), 7-6(7-0), 6-4 score. It took him two hours and 36 minutes to get one step closer to winning a historic US Open title in Men’s Singles. Over in Women’s Singles, top seed Iga Swiatek was in an unrelenting form against Jessica Pegula of the USA. She advanced into the next round following a 6-3, 7-6(7-4) victory, thus eliminating the last surviving American in this category.

Aryna Sabalenka, the sixth seed, marched on into the semi-final of Women’s Singles. She was too strong for the 22nd seed Karolína Plíšková of the Czech Republic and took the victory through a 6-1, 7-6(7-4) score. She will face the outstanding Iga Swiatek in the next round for a place in the final fixture at the US Open.

The highest remaining seeds in Women’s Doubles, Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková moved into the semi-final after a 6-3, 6-7(4-7), 6-3 win over Gabriela Dabrowski of Canada and Giuliana Olmos of Mexico. They have set up a meeting with Ellen Perez and Nicole Melichar-Martinez in the semi-final. 

One of the finalists in the Mixed Doubles category has been revealed. Belgium’s Kirsten Flipkens and France’s Édouard Roger-Vasselin caused an upset by beating second seeds Zhang Shuai of China and Mate Pavić of Croatia. The duo made their way into the final following a 6-4, 5-7, (10-6) win. They will face either Americans Caty McNally and William Blumberg or Australians Storm Sanders and John Peers for the championship.
