Indian Sports in 2023: Major events to look forward to in March

Hockey and Badminton are some of the top sports that will take place this month.

For Indians, Badminton will be the most active sport in March with five events set to take place (in Europe and Asia). India will be hosting the women’s world boxing championships for the third time. BFI (Boxing Federation of India) appointed a new head coach ahead of the prestigious event. After a disappointing end to the men’s hockey world cup, India will be hosting Australia and Germany for the Pro League matches in Rourkela.

Badminton

After a break of one month, the BWF tour shifts to Europe and resumes with the BWF 300 German Open. This will be the precursor event to the All England Badminton Championships. A total of five events are set to take place. Also, players will look to start their preparations and maintain momentum going into the Olympic Qualifying year starting in April.

Boxing

India will host the IBA Women's World Boxing Championship for the third time (after 2006 and 2018) in New Delhi. Reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen will be back in action along with other experienced boxers. This will be the first event where the digital evaluation and bout review will be introduced.

Top Indian fencers in the sport - Bhavani Devi, Karan Singh, and Udaivir Singh will be in action in the respective events in March.

Table Tennis

Top Indian paddlers after taking part in the WTT Star Contender Goa will head straight to Singapore to take part in the prestigious Singapore Smash tournament.

11 Indian athletes are set to take part in the Judo Grand Slam to be held in Tashkent.

India will be taking on world champions Germany along with Australia in the home leg of the Men’s Hockey Pro League. This will be India’s first international match since the World Cup. India has played four matches and is currently placed in the second spot with eight points.
