World Skateboarding Championships 2023: Indian Squad, Schedule, Telecast & Results
Eight Indians will take part in the prestigious competition to gain valuable points and make the cut for Paris 2024.
The World Skateboarding Championships 2022 is set to be held from February 1 to February 12, 2023, in Sharjah, UAE. These events are split up into two parts - Skeet Skateboarding from (01-05 February) and Park Skateboarding from (08-12 February). This will be a qualifying competition for the 2024 Paris Olympics and skateboarders from across the globe are set to compete to gain valuable points to make the cut for the summer Olympics.
Eight Indian skateboarders (five men and three women) will be competing in the prestigious competition.
Indian Squad
Park: Mahin Tandon, J.Joshan, Shivam Balhara
Street: Satyam Hangargekar, Shubham Surana, Shivam Balhara, Shruthi Bhosale, Urmila Pable, and Shraddha Gaikwad.
Shubam Balhara the 23-year-old is one of the most experienced in the Indian squad. On the other hand, Shivam Balhara(taken part in the World Skateboarding Championships in Nanjing, China) and Satyam Hangargekar the youngest (15-year-old) will be competing in both the street and park sections. Shivam Balhara won the silver medal in the men’s park skateboarding event at the 2022 National Games.
In the women’s, Shraddha Gaikwad the 16-year-old won the gold medal at the 2022 National Games after battling with financial hardship. Skateboarding in India is not as popular as other sports but is slowly starting to emerge. The sport made its maiden appearance at the 2020 Tokyo Games and many young athletes won medals. 24-year-old Yuti Horigame was the first skateboarder to win a gold medal at the Olympics. Keegan Palmer and Sakura Yosozumi both 14-year-olds became the youngest to win the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the park men's and women's section.
