Injuries are preventing him from participating in the year’s final Grand Slam.
In a piece of disappointing news for the fans of Nick Kyrgios, he will not be participating in the upcoming 2023 US Open. The 28-year-old, at the moment, is struggling to overcome injuries and continues to spend time on the sidelines. According to reports, a wrist injury is keeping him from playing at the 2023 US Open in New York.
Earlier in the year, Nick Kyrgios was unable to participate in the 2023 Australian Open due to a knee injury and it was particularly tough for him being an Aussie. The 2023 US Open is set to begin on August 28, 2023, and it will not have the last year’s quarter-finalist owing to injury struggles. The 2022 Wimbledon finalist has played only one ATP Tour game in 2023 because of health concerns.
A wasted year
Nick Kyrgios would like to erase the year 2023 from his memory as soon as possible. As he misses the 2023 US Open, it means that the former World No.11 has missed all four Grand Slams of the year. Missing the quartet of the biggest tennis tournaments on the ATP Tour is a major setback for the Australian star.
A wrist injury kept him from participating at the 2023 Wimbledon. It was a huge disappointment for the organisers to see the Aussie back out because it was where he reached his first-ever final of a Grand Slam during the 2022 edition. He lost to Novak Djokovic to finish as the runner-up.
It remains unclear as to when Nick Kyrgios will make a full recovery from his persistent injury issues. Becoming fit for the 2024 Australian Open ought to be the target for Kyrgios. Safe to say, the year 2023 has been extremely disappointing for him and one that he would like to forget as soon as possible.
