All you need to know about IFSC Climbing World Cup
The event will begin on 24th September and run until 26th September.
The IFSC Climbing Worth Cup is set to be held in Indonesia from 24th September to 26th September. This edition of the World Cup only includes the speed and Lead categories. Top athletes from across the world will take part in Bali, Indonesia.
The sport was first introduced in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and saw success. There are three categories where athletes compete they are
- Speed
- Lead
- Bouldering
At the Olympics, the winners are selected by adding the scores of all the categories. After good reception, the IOC now has announced to award medals in speed and (lead+bouldering) separately from the 2024 Paris Olympics. The athletes can now fight for 2 gold medals in both men's and women's.
Bharath Periera is a well-known Indian climber who participated in the 2018 Youth Olympics held in Bueno Aires, Argentina. Bharath qualified for the Youth Olympics by winning the 2017 Youth Asian Championships at 17.
Indian Contingent
A total of five Indians three men and two women will participate in this event.
Men's
- Hrithik Marne
- Sahil
- Deepu M
Hrithik Marne will be the player to watch out having already played in three World Cups and three World Championships since last year. Hrithik was also on a tour to Europe where he got to practise in top-class facilities.
At the recently concluded National Championships in Uttarkashi, Hrithik Marne finished 1st in Lead Climbing after competing for more than 7 years. Sahil Khan (20) will take part in his first World Cup.
Women's
- Prateeksha Arun
- Saniya Shaikh
Saniya Shaikh finished 4th in all three events ( speed, lead, and bouldering) at the National Championships and will look to put up a good show here.
Prateeksha Arun (23) from 2019 has taken part only in one World Championship held in France.

What to expect
Not many from the squad have the experience of taking part in International meets and this will act as great exposure and gain experience. Hrithik Marne should be the player to watch and a Semi FInals finish here would be great.
