What is India's highest medal haul at a single international event?

Team India has competed at various international events such as the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Olympics over the years. They have put on stellar shows at the international level. Their top five performances on the international stage have come during the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.
The Asian nation hasn’t had a great run at the Olympics thus far. India’s best performance at the Olympics came during the recently concluded edition of the extravaganza. They finished 48th in the overall medal tally with a total of seven medals to their name.
Here are India’s five best performances in terms of medals at the international level:
5. Asian Games 2010 - 65 medals
India finished sixth overall during the 2010 Asian Games with 65 medals to its name. India clinched 14 gold, 17 silver and 34 bronze medals in Guangzhou, China. Somdev Devvarman and Ashwini Chidananda Akkunji bagged a couple of gold medals each.
Meanwhile, Pankaj Advani, Bajrang Lal Takhar, Ronjan Sodhi, Preeja Sreedharan, Sudha Singh, Sanam Singh, Joseph Abraham, Vikas Krishan Yadav, Manjeet Kaur, Sini Jose, Mandeep Kaur and Vijender Singh were the other gold medalists.
The Indian men’s and women’s kabaddi teams also won gold medals for the country during the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou. India won 12 medals in athletics, while boxing and shooting delivered nine and eight respectively.
4. Commonwealth Games 2018 - 66 medals
India finished third during the 2018 edition of the Commonwealth Games. They won 66 medals on the Gold Coast, Australia. They clinched 26 gold medals and 20 silver and bronze medals each.
The Asian nation was the best in weightlifting, shooting, wrestling, badminton and table tennis disciplines. They were also the second-best nation in boxing, having bagged nine medals in the sport. Shooting delivered 16 medals, while India won 12 medals in weightlifting.
Manu Bhaker, Sharath Kamal Achanta, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Sushil Kumar, Bajrang Punia, Mary Kom, Neeraj Chopra, Vinesh Phogat and Manika Batra were among the gold medalists for India.
3. Commonwealth Games 2002 - 69 medals
Team India bagged 69 medals during the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England. They ranked fourth after Australia, host England and Canada with 30 gold medals to their name. India bagged 22 silver medals and 17 bronze medals in Manchester.
The Indian women’s hockey team made it to the final, having defeated Australia in their semi-final encounter. They defeated England in the summit clash to clinch the gold medal.
Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Abhinav Bindra were among the top shooters who bagged gold medals for India at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. India clinched a good number of medals in shooting and weightlifting.
2. Asian Games 2018 - 70 medals
India’s second-best performance in terms of medals at the international level came at the 2018 Asian Games. The event was held in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia. Neeraj Chopra was India’s flag-bearer at the opening ceremony, while the Indian women’s Hockey team skipper Rani Rampal was the country’s flag-bearer at the closing ceremony.
Team India bagged 70 medals in Indonesia four years ago. They registered 16 gold medals, 23 silver medals and 31 bronze medals during the 2018 Asian Games. The Asian nation bagged 20 medals in athletics, while shooting and squash delivered nine and five medals respectively.
Eight gold medals were bagged by the Indian athletes in athletics at the 2018 Asian Games. The gold medalists in athletics were Neeraj Chopra, Manjit Singh, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Arpinder Singh, Swapna Barman and Jinson Johnson. The women's 4×400m relay and mixed 4x400m relay teams also bagged gold medals.
1. Commonwealth Games 2010 - 101 medals
The 2010 Commonwealth Games were hosted in Delhi with India having won 101 medals. They bagged 38 gold medals, 27 silver medals and 36 bronze medals at home. Shooters Abhinav Bindra and Gagan Narang served as India’s flag-bearers at the opening and closing ceremony, respectively.
India won a total of 30 medals in shooting, 19 medals in wrestling and 12 medals in athletics at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. They finished second in the overall medal tally behind Australia, who clinched 177 medals in total.
Team India clinched 14 gold medals in shooting and also bagged 10 medals in wrestling at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Rahi Sarnobat, Yogeshwar Dutt, Rahi Sarnobat, Deepika Kumari, Sharath Kamal, Ashwini Ponnappa and Saina Nehwal were among the gold medalists for India at home.
