Official: INOX to sponsor Indian Contingent at Tokyo Olympics
The group will promote the team through INOX Leisure Limited that owns a chain of multiplexes across the country.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has announced that the INOX Group will officially sponsor the Indian contingent in the Tokyo Olympics next year. INOX Leisure Limited heads a very renowned chain of multiplexes across the country. In accordance with this deal, it will work towards promoting the national team that will represent the country in the quadrennial event.
Rajeev Mehta, general secretary of the IOA, expressed his thoughts regarding this partnership, “We are happy to announce this partnership with INOX Group which will be beneficial for all our athletes and the organisation. I would like to thank INOX Group and Mr. (Siddarth) Jain for showing their support for Team India, even under the current circumstances.”
Siddarth Jain, the director of the INOX Group, reflected upon this move too. He asserted that their organization has regularly contributed towards the broader development in the country. In fact, they have earlier aided teams and leagues from various sports namely badminton, basketball, table-tennis, cricket, running amongst others. They use their promotional tactics to build a widespread consensus and thus involve the people in these competitions.
Jain remarked, “INOX Group has always assigned priority to India's all-round progress. We are honoured and privileged to be able to support India's Olympic dream through this prestigious association with the Indian Olympic Association.”
The Tokyo Olympics were originally supposed to be held this year. However, the coronavirus pandemic compelled the organizers to postpone the mega-tournament to 2021. Yet, there is uncertainty regarding the actual fate of the Olympics and whether or not could it be scheduled in the upcoming calendar year. As of now, it is slated to be held from July 23-August 8, 2021.
According to the data from the World Health Organization, Japan has recorded 51,147 confirmed cases of COVID-19. 1,063 individuals have succumbed to death. Though the nation has fared largely well in their resistance against the pandemic, hosting the Olympics will significantly increase the number of foreign tourists to their land.
Toshiro Muto, the chief executive of Tokyo Olympics, had recently claimed that the Games could take place with “limited spectators”, as a precautionary measure considering the current situation.
