Mary Kom: I will not give up until I win the gold for India at the Olympics

The star boxer also asked everyone to stay at home and adhere to the guidelines of the Indian government.

Multiple times World Champion and a Rajya Sabha MP, Mary Kom has revealed that she wishes to win a Gold medal in the Olympics and will try her best to achieve her dream. The Indian boxer currently has a Olympic Bronze Medal, which she won in 2012 whereas she was unable to qualify for 2016 Rio Olympics.

“My focus is to win gold for India at the Olympic Games. I have been trying really hard even at this age. It was very difficult for me to qualify for the Olympics in the first place which have been postponed until next year,” Mary Kom said in a Facebook Live Video for the Sports Authority of India (SAI).

The 37-year-old secured her qualification for the Tokyo Olympics in February in the Asian Qualifiers in Jordan, However, the mega tournament have been postponed till next year in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

“There’s no secret mantra for me to achieve at the World Championships or the Olympics. I will keep fighting and will not give up until I win the gold for India at the Olympics,” she further went on saying.

Since returning from the Asian Qualifiers in Jordan, Mary Kom had put herself in quarantine, which extended with the Government of India imposing lockdown of the country.

“Even though I am in quarantine, I am continuing with my preparations even at home. I am trying to stay fit as much as I can so that I can achieve my target. Sometimes it becomes difficult at home, but I do enjoy my time with my family," the star boxer revealed. "I need blessings and love of the entire nation to fulfill my dream," she added.

The Rajya Sabha MP also urged the viewers to adhere to the guidelines of the Government and asked everyone to stay at home.

“We were not expecting this pandemic to hit us but now that it’s there, we have to make sure we adhere to the guidelines of the government. The best and the only way to help the government and the medical staff to stop the spread of coronavirus is by staying at home,” Mary Kom quipped.

“I know it’s difficult but that’s the need of the hour. We need to follow the instructions of the government for our own benefit," she signed off with.
