Five years later, at the Makuhari Messe Hall, Vio defended her title against Zhou Jingjing, again, triumphing with a 15-9 victory in the final of the women’s foil individual category B.

Rim Ju-Song Makes History 

Rim Ju-Song, a North Korean swimmer, made history at the 2012 London Summer Paralympics as the first Paralympian to represent North Korea. Despite finishing last in the 50-metre freestyle race, Ju-Song’s participation marked a significant milestone for North Korean Paralympic athletes.  

Born on October 31, 1995, Ju-Song is a left-arm and left-leg amputee who also has limited use of his right leg and foot due to an accident at the age of five. Selected as North Korea’s sole representative, Ju-Song learned to swim the crawl stroke and breaststroke quickly, receiving a wildcard invitation from the International Paralympic Committee.
