Sports that will make Olympic debut at Paris Olympics 2024
Multiple disciplines will make their debut in Paris.
With the Paris Olympics 2024 drawing closer, anticipation is building for the Quadrennial Games. Athletes from around the globe are gearing up to represent their nations, aiming to deliver stellar performances on the world stage.
The event is scheduled to be held from June 26 to August 11 and has been spread across different cities in Metropolitan France. The Paris Olympics will witness a total of 329 events in 45 sports where athletes will be vying for medal-winning performances.
As the Games approach, let’s look at the sports and events that will be making their first appearance on the stage of the Paris Olympics 2024.
Sports will make debut at Paris Olympics 2024
Breaking or Breakdancing
Breaking is the sport that is set to make its debut at the Paris Olympics 2024. The sport will feature two medal events – one for men and one for women. A total of 32 athletes, including b-boys and 16 b-girls, will participate in the Summer Olympics 2024.
The competition for both b-girls and b-boys includes round-robin, quarter-final, semi-final, bronze, and gold-medal battles. The women’s events are scheduled on August 9, while the men’s events will take place on August 10 at the La Concorde 1 in Paris.
Athletics – Marathon race walk mixed relay
Athletics is a sport that consists of multiple disciplines including running, jumping, walking, and throwing. The sport will have the addition of a new event i.e. Marathon race walk mixed relay for the Paris Olympics 2024.
The marathon race walk mixed relay will replace the 50km race walk event which was previously contested at the Olympic Games. The format of the event is such that the relay will feature one male and one female athlete who will have to cover a distance of 42.195km.
Each athlete must complete two legs in the following sequence: a male runner covering 11.45 km, followed by a female runner covering 10 km, the male runner then covering 10 km, and finally, the female runner completing the last 10.745 km.

Sailing – Windsurfing (iQFoil) and Kiteboarding
Sailing will feature two new events – Windsurfing (iQFoil) and Kiteboarding (Formula Kite) for both men and women at the Paris Olympics 2024. Marseille Marina is the venue for Sailing in Paris with all the events scheduled from July 28 to August 8.
In kiteboarding, athletes will use a kite controlled by hand to glide on a board across the water. There will be 40 competitors in total, featuring both men and women, vying for gold, silver, and bronze medals.
Meanwhile, in iQFOil, which will replace the RS:X class, the board uses hydrofoils to lift it out of the water. The event will include three different types of races: slalom, course racing, and marathon.
Canoe Slalom – Kayak Cross
Canoe Slalom will see the introduction of the Kayak Cross event at the Paris Olympics 2024. The event will not only offer medal-winning opportunities to the athletes but also has a different format than the traditional canoe slalom events with the athletes competing directly against each other. The event will be held at the white-water Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium.
The Kayak Cross – men’s and women’s time trials are scheduled to be held on August 2, Friday. Round 1 and the repechage for the event will take place on August 3, with the heats slated for August 4. The quarter-finals, semi-finals, small final, and final will all be held on August 5, Monday.
