British tennis star Emma Raducanu has confirmed that she will miss the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The 2021 US Open champion has decided to skip the upcoming Olympics and focus on her overall tennis career. During a recent interview, Raducanu clarified that she loves representing her nation, as she did at the Billie Jean Cup. However, she won’t be able to do the same at the 2024 Paris Olympics, scheduled from July 26 to August 11.
Emma Raducanu also addressed her surgeries, due to which she was on a long recovery break from tennis. She affirmed that risking her surgical procedures for the Olympics was not worth it for her.
Nevertheless, she aims to participate at the next edition of the Olympics. She said, “I love playing for my country. I think that was pretty clear at the Billie Jean Cup. I really fought and I enjoyed it so much, but the Olympics is just not the right time for me this year.”
She added, “I really hope to be a part of the next one. But, I guess with the change in surface, it’s just not worth the risk for me at this point, having recovered from the surgeries last year. But, I do wish the team good luck.”
Raducanu also missed the 2024 Roland-Garros as she was preparing for the Wimbledon Championships. Similarly, an abrupt change of surface can become a problem for the Brit, who underwent three surgeries last season. Emma Raducanu is currently ranked 165th in the WTA rankings with a win/loss record of 11/8 in 2024.

She recently played at the Nottingham Open, where she reached the semi-finals. Raducanu defeated Ena Shibahara and Daria Snigur in the initial two rounds. She got a walkover in the quarter-finals, as Francesca Jones was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to personal reasons.
However, her WTA 250 campaign ended against countrywoman and eventual champion Katie Boulter in the semi-finals. Nevertheless, the 21-year-old looked fresh throughout her campaign and she’ll be aiming to perform better at the upcoming Wimbledon Championships in front of a home audience.
Apart from Raducanu, the likes of Ons Jabeur, Aryna Sabalenka, Liudmila Samsonova and Elise Mertens are also not participating at the Olympics.
