Two-time Grand Slam semifinalist Gael Monfils has stepped in to play doubles with Edouard Roger-Vasselin instead of Fabien Reboul.
The French pair of Roger-Vasselin and Reboul were set to face India’s Rohan Bopanna and N. Sriram Balaji in the first round of the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, Fabien Reboul has reportedly suffered an injury. As a result, he will be missing the opening-round clash. In his place, Gael Monfils has stepped up to represent the hosts.
The two-time Grand Slam semifinalist is playing his last Olympics. Thus, he’s aiming to give his best performance in front of the home crowd. The French pair of Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Fabien Reboul looked strong ahead of the Paris Games. However, the injury setback will surely hamper their chances of a podium finish.

Interestingly, Rohan Bopanna and Edouard Roger-Vasselin have played together in the past and the Indian tennis veteran could use a superior technique to clinch the victory.
The French pair also enjoyed a decent campaign at the 2024 German Open, where they ended as the runner-up. However, they recorded a thrilling victory over top-seed Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek in the semi-finals. Nevertheless, with a change in partner, the circumstances are also expected to change for Roger-Vasselin.
Meanwhile, Rohan Bopanna and N. Sriram Balaji were eliminated in the first round of the German Open. They suffered a 6-1, 6-4 loss against Germany’s Jakob Schnaitter and Mark Wallner in the opening round. However, the Indian team is aiming to win the nation’s second tennis medal.
In the upcoming rounds, they can face the likes of Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli. Meanwhile, they can all go head-to-head against Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal.
