Great Britain’s Andy Murray will reportedly play his last professional tennis match at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The men’s tennis squad for Great Britain for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics has been announced. The squad includes the likes of Jack Draper, Cameron Norrie, Daniel Evans and Andy Murray.
Andy Murray recently talked about his retirement plans, stating that he’ll probably retire at Wimbledon or the Paris Olympics. He said (via BBC Sport), “I don’t think so [on playing the US Open or the Davis Cup].”
He added, “Probably if I was going to finish my career, I would rather finish at Wimbledon or an Olympic Games – to me that would probably be more fitting. I’ve had amazing experiences and memories from Wimbledon, but also being part of British Olympics teams.”
The Brit is currently ranked 129th in the singles rankings. However, he has been awarded an ITF place for being a three-time Grand Slam and two-time Olympic champion. Interestingly, Murray is the only player in tennis history to defend his Olympic gold medal.
The 2024 Paris Olympics are expected to be the last tournament of the three-time Grand Slam champion’s professional career. Meanwhile, the highest-ranked player in the Great Britain squad, Jack Draper, recently won the 2024 Stuttgart Open.
It was Draper’s first ATP title and he’s currently 31 in the rankings. Moreover, the 22-year-old has also become the new British No. 1 with the ATP 250 title. Wimbledon semi-finalist Cameron Norrie is the third name in Great Britain’s squad for the Paris Olympics. Noorie’s favourite surface is grass and his struggles on clay have been constant.

Former World No. 21 and 2015 Davis Cup champion Daniel Evans will also represent Great Britain at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Evans has won only two ATP titles in his professional career and has never reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam.
Evans and Murray will add to the experience of Great Britain’s side, while Norrie and Draper can be the breakout stars. However, all four stars would prefer grass or hard court over clay. With limited success on clay and an abrupt schedule ahead, the British team has a huge challenge to overcome at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
