Iga Swiatek has been unbeaten at Stade Roland Garros since 2021.
Five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek has stated that changing from grass to clay won’t be a problem for her. As a result, she’s ready to play at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Polish tennis star Swiatek has started her 108th week as the World No. 1 and with a successful clay season, she has exhibited her dominance on the red dirt. The four-time French Open champion has a win/loss record of 45/4 this year.
In addition, she has won five titles this season (two hard court and three clay) to assert her dominance. Iga Swiatek is currently on a 19-match unbeaten streak on the tour. Her last loss came against Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina in the semi-finals at the Stuttgart Open in April.
Thus, she recently talked about participating at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which will be played at Stade Roland Garros. She stated that the Olympics will get underway amid the grass season and the athletes will have minimal time to change surfaces.
However, the Pole is unfazed by the problem, as clay is her preferred surface. She said, “It would be more challenging if it was grass first, clay in the middle and grass again. Going back to clay will not be a problem for me. When I go back to clay after a whole year, it only takes two days and I feel great.”
At Stade Roland Garros, Iga Swiatek has been unbeatable since 2021. She’s on a 21-match unbeaten streak at the Paris venue and is a top contender for the Olympic gold medal. Several tennis players have announced their withdrawal from the 2024 Paris Olympics due to tight schedules and fitness concerns.
Ons Jabeur, Aryna Sabalenka, Liudmila Samsonova, Elise Mertens and Emma Raducanu have already affirmed that they won’t participate at the Olympics. Jabeur took to social media and stated that she’s missing the Olympics to avoid the risk of a knee injury.
Meanwhile, Sabalenka stated that she hasn’t been feeling well for the last few months and as a result, she will be prioritizing her health instead of the extravaganza. Raducanu stated that the Olympics are not at the right time and she doesn’t think that it’s worth risking her surgeries at the event.
Apart from the WTA stars, Andrey Rublev, Karen Khachanov, Ben Shelton and more will also not be participating at the competition.
