The USA contingent will see a rise in the medal tally once the finals of track and field events begin.

The Paris Olympics 2024 in France have been full of high-octane action and entertainment. Wonderful performances have been observed across the various disciplines, from athletes pushing themselves beyond their limits to winning medals for their respective countries.

Day 7 of Paris Olympics 2024 started with Switzerland’s Chiara Leone winning the nation’s first gold in this edition. She won the gold in women’s 50m rifle 3P event and also set an Olympic record. Spain too recorded its first gold of this edition through men’s skiff medal race under sailing through the pair of Diego Botin and Florian Trittel.

World No.1 Iga Swiatek won bronze in the women’s singles by defeating Anna Karolina Schmiedlova of Slovakia in the bronze medal match. She delivered Poland’s first ever Olympic medal in tennis in the process.

Although India did not win any medals, there were multiple milestones set by the athletes. Manu Bhaker will contest in her record third final on August 3 while Lakshya Sen became the first male shutter to reach an Olympic semi-final. The Indian men’s hockey team beat Australia for the first time in 52 years in Olympics.

China has continued its stay on the medal tally but will see a change once the finals take place in track and field events which USA is suppose to dominate. Australia picked up its form once again and will look to add their medal tally in the final days to finish inside the top five. Japan too made a slight improvement from day 6 but needs to pick up the pace.

China leads the medal table with 13 gold medals, eight silver and nine bronze. It won six medals on day 7 of Paris Olympics 2024. Wang Zongyuan and Long Daoyi took the gold in men’s synchronised 3-metre springboard diving. Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong won the mixed doubles gold in badminton.

The host nation France has impressed at the Olympics as they sat in second place with 11 gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze medals respectively. The nation won eight medals, including three gold on day 7 at Paris Olympics 2024. Teddy Riner won his fourth Olympic gold in men’s 100kg plus Judo event. Meanwhile, Leon Marchand won his fourth gold of this edition in men’s 200m individual medley swimming.

French fans got more good news at the end of the day as the men’s BMX racing final saw the hosts sweeping the medal tally. Joris Daudet, Sylvain Andre and Romain Mahieu took the gold, silver and bronze respectively.

The Australian athletes also performed exceedingly well. Australia is placed third with 11 gold, six silver and five bronze medals. Cameron Mcevoy won the gold in men’s 50m freestyle swimming and few minutes later Kaylee Mckeown took the gold in women’s 200m backstroke. The final medal event of the day 7 saw Saya Sakakibara winning the gold in women’s BMX racing.

The United States of America has again dropped down the table and is placed fourth with nine gold, 18 silver and 16 bronze medals. The USA contingent also won six medals on day 7 at Paris Olympics 2024 but none of them were gold. Sagen Maddalena won the silver in women’s 50m rifle 3P event. The US team won silver in the jumping event under Equestrian.

It was a fruitful day for fifth placed Great Britain as well, it has now won nine gold, 10 silver and eight bronze medals. The contingent won gold in the equestrian discipline Jumping team final event ahead of the United States of America and France. Bryony Page also delivered a gold medal for Great Britain in the Women’s Final of Trampoline Gymnastics.

Japan seems to have slowed down at Paris Olympics 2024 as it only won two medals on day 7. It has won eight gold, four silver and six bronze medals to be placed sixth in the medal tally. Arisa Higashino and Yuta Watanabe won the bronze medal in mixed doubles badminton. Japan’s men’s team won silver in team Epee event under fencing.
