The fight for the top spot in the table is intensifying.

A lot was in store on August 9 at Paris Olympics 2024 in France. The prestigious quadrennial event is will soon end and the level of the competition is becoming fiercer with every passing hour. The race for the medals is heating up with China and the USA pushing each other to finish on top of the medal tally.

The day began with two medals for Hungary in men’s 10km marathon swimming. Kristof Rasovszky won gold as 20-year-old David Betlehem secured bronze. The next event saw host nation, France winning the bronze medal in men’s team table tennis as Felix Lebrun won his second medal after taking bronze in men’s singles.

It was a good day at Paris Olympics 2024 for India as Aman Sehrawat won bronze in men’s 57 kg freestyle wrestling. The 21-year-old became India’s youngest individual Olympic medallist. India now has six medals with 1 silver and 5 bronze.

In first place of the medal tally is United States of America with 33 gold medals, 39 silver and 39 bronze medals. The USA women’s 4x100m relay team won gold with one of the best anchor legs by Sha’Carri Richardson.

21-year-old Olivia Reeves won gold in women’s 71kg weightlifting ended the nation’s 24-year gold drought in the event. Rai Benjamin upgraded his Tokyo 2020 silver to gold at Paris Olympics 2024 in men’s 400m hurdles.

Coming in second place in the medal tally are China with 33 gold medals, 27 silver and 23 bronze. The Chinese women’s team won gold in the Canoe Sprint’s Canoe Double 500m event. The men’s table tennis team won gold comfortably against Sweden. In diving, the Chinese domination continued with Chen Yiwen winning gold and Chang Yani taking bronze in women’s 3m Springboard.

Australia maintained their third position with 18 gold medals, 16 silver and 14 bronze. Maddison Keeney won silver in women’s 3m Springboard. Tom Green and Jean van der Westhuyzen won the bronze medal in men’s kayak double 500m under canoe sprint.

Japan made a leap with nine medals on day 14 which included three gold and six bronze. The nation is in fourth place with 16 gold medals, 8 silver and 13 bronze. Rei Higuchi won gold in the men’s freestyle 57kg wrestling final, while Tsugumi Sakurai took gold in women’s event. Ami Yuasa collected the gold in the first ever edition of breaking or breakdancing in women’s event.

Great Britain has shown consistency as it sits in fifth place with 14 gold medals, 20 silver and 23 bronze. 19-year-old Toby Roberts won gold in men’s boulder and lead under sports climbing. The women’s madision event under cycling saw Great Britian win silver. In 4x100m relay, the women’s team won silver while the men’s team finished third.
